Jacques-Pierre Malan

South African cellist Jacques-Pierre Malan has built an international career as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, and artistic director, with performances across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the United States.

Praised for his vibrant musicality and communicative approach to performance, he has appeared as concerto soloist with ensembles including the Cape Town Philharmonic, Johannesburg Philharmonic, KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic, Mid-Atlantic Symphony, and Peabody Symphony Orchestra.

Based in Baltimore, Malan is Cellist-in-Residence and Co-Artistic Director of the Embassy Series in Washington, D.C., where his work brings together chamber music, international cultural exchange, and artistic collaboration.

He is founder and leader of the Embassy String Quartet and a core member of the Serafin Ensemble.

A graduate of the University of Pretoria and the Peabody Institute, where he completed graduate studies in cello performance, Malan has made chamber music and international collaboration central to his artistic life.

As founder and Artistic Director of JP Malan Concerts, he brings musicians from different countries and musical traditions together through performances, recordings, educational projects, and international exchanges.
