Renate Falkner

American violist Renate Falkner is an educator, recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer whose career encompasses both modern and Baroque viola.

She has performed with ensembles including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Artis—Naples, Boston Baroque, Tafelmusik, and Baltimore's Pro Musica Rara, and has appeared in venues ranging from New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art to Carnegie Hall and London's Royal Albert Hall.

A committed chamber musician, Falkner is Artistic Director of the Charm City Chamber Players and has collaborated extensively with musicians throughout the United States and abroad.

Her festival appearances have included the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, Spoleto Festival in Italy, and Bellingham Festival of Music.

She studied at Oberlin College and Conservatory, earning degrees in viola and Ancient Greek, continued her graduate training at the Yale School of Music, and earned her doctorate from Florida State University.

Falkner teaches viola and chamber music at the Peabody Preparatory and UMBC and has served in leadership roles with the American Viola Society.

She is violist of the Embassy String Quartet.
